Emergency Closings

The following establishes the procedure for curtailing or suspending University operations due to an emergency or adverse weather conditions:

EMERGENCY CALL LISTS

All departments should develop an emergency call list to ensure all employees, including temporary employees, are appropriately notified.

MAIN CAMPUS ACADEMIC CLASSES AND UNIVERSITY OPERATIONS

The Provost in conjunction with the Executive Vice President will make the decision regarding partial or complete suspension of classes on campus, and any subsequent delayed opening of University operations. Division Heads will be responsible for notifying all appropriate personnel in their areas. Select operations are critical and must continue. Department Heads and/or designate will be responsible for notifying employees and determining the work force needed to maintain necessary operations.

The Director of Public Safety and Security will be responsible for notifying the following area radio stations that will regularly announce whether classes are being cancelled:

WCTC (1450 AM) WOR (710 AM) WINS (1010 AM)
WBUD (1260 AM) WMGQ (98.3 FM) NEWS 12 NEW JERSEY
WSOU (89.5 FM) WKXW (101.5 FM)

Radio announcements will pertain only to partial or complete cancellation of classes. They will not affect office or other non-academic campus operations. The status of University Operations will be determined by the Provost in conjunction with the Executive Vice President and will be communicated through the emergency call list. Employees who do not report to work in accordance with the decision made regarding university operations, will automatically be charged vacation time, if available, or docked in pay.

LAW SCHOOL CLASSES AND OPERATIONS

The Dean of the Law School, in consultation with the Provost, is responsible for determining the status of classes at the Law School. The Dean will notify all parties concerned. Subsequently, the status of Law School Operations will be determined by the Provost in conjunction with the Executive Vice President and will be communicated through the emergency call list. Employees who do not report to work in accordance with the decision made regarding Law School operations, will automatically be charged vacation time, if available, or docked in pay.

EARLY RELEASE OF EMPLOYEES

During normal working hours, the Office of Human Resources will coordinate the notifications process in the event it is decided to release employees early due to inclement weather conditions.
