Masonry Restoration

Masonry restoration was recently completed at the University’s Art Center. The former Carriage House is on of four historic buildings on campus. Work included the removal of several layers of paint from the brick structure, repointing and replacement of damaged brick. The exterior walls and roof were stabilized with extra rafters and tension rods to tie back the existing masonry. Deteriorated window sills were replaced with new brownstone sills to maintain the original character of the building. In addition, a new slate roof was installed over the main roof. A new standing seam copper roof and new weather vane complete the restoration of the building’s turret.
