Getting some exercise and fresh air.
Volunteers are assigned a student from Sacred Heart Elementary School in Vailsburg, Newark. This event is weekly, and volunteers are committed to attend every week to provide a stable adult presence in their mentee’s life.
“Even though we just started a couple weeks ago, I am having a wonderful experience.
Devaun, my mentee, is a wonderful young man. He is intelligent and very
humorous. I like listening to him speak; he knows facts and has
experiences that I do not have at 20, and he is 11! It is refreshing to
hear such an innocent view of the world, especially as a criminal
justice major. In just a couple weeks I can already tell Devaun has a
bright future ahead of him, and he doesn't realize that getting to know
him will be a positive experience for me.”
