Minimizing problems related to vehicle use is one of the primary commitments of the University’s risk and insurance management program. In keeping with specific program recommendations from the brokers and underwriters with whom we work, and from the University Risk and Insurance Management Association (of which Seton Hall is a member), we have implemented a vehicle safety program.
The SHU Compliance Officer and the Director of Business Affairs administer the program. The key program elements are:
- Review of drivers’ motor vehicle records, to ensure compliance with base-line criteria, re: current licensure and prior violations;
- Defensive driver training (accomplished via on-line tutorial);
- Adherence to program policies addressing various issues, including qualifications for use of University vehicles; steps to take in the event of accidents or breakdowns; expectations for routine maintenance of University vehicles; documentation related to vehicle use, in certain situations.
It is required that anyone using a vehicle owned or leased by the University will complete the process for becoming an authorized driver. Vehicle program application processes are summarized.
